Arnold Schwarzenegger Bodybuilding

Arnold Schwarzenegger is one of the most successful and popular bodybuilders of all  time.  He won the Mr. Olympia title six years in a row (1970-75) along with many other contests before going on to become a huge Hollywood movie star and then governor of California.   Through his legendary wins, publications and films, Schwarzenegger has helped to build the popularity of bodybuilding and continues to be a leader despite having retired from the sport over thirty years ago.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Bodybuilding Review

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s style of bodybuilding is characterized by high volume and long workout routines.   He was known for his symmetrical, muscular body and intense workouts.  Some of the Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilding methods are considered controversial or as having a high risk for injury.  He advocated 6 day high intense workouts with lots of reps.  He also admitted to taking steroids, although at the time they were legal.

In 1985 Schwarzenegger published the Arnold Schwarzenegger Encyclopedia of Modern Bodybuilding.  It was updated and revised in 1999.  It truly is an encyclopedic guide to bodybuilding, weighing in at over 800 pages and with over 1,000 pictures.  The Encyclopedia, or Bible of bodybuilding as it is sometimes called, includes a history of bodybuilding, tactics and strategies for bodybuilders entering competitions, a photographic “Bodybuilding Hall of Fame,” posing techniques, along with sections on sports psychology, nutrition and diet, training methods, prevention of injury and more.  Modern Bodybuilding also offers plenty of Arnold’s insights perspective and tips sprinkled throughout the text.

It has been called the ultimate book when it comes to bodybuilding.  Every muscle group is gone over in very detailed and systematic fashion, and it explains several different types of movements for each muscle.   The book is also well organized with sections on bodybuilding history, competitions, and training techniques.   Most bodybuilding enthusiasts have high praise for the Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilding book, although there is some controversy.  There are some individuals who feel that some of his advice is outdated now and that some of the high volume workout routines are very extreme which could lead to over training and possible injury.

Arnold Schwarzenegger bodybuilding will always be synonymous with lots of hard work, time in the gym and working to achieve one’s optimal body.  Schwarzenegger, an immigrant from Austria, is a self made man in more ways than one.  Through his determination, hard work and charisma he helped to bring bodybuilding to the spotlight and revolutionize the sport as we know it today.
