Bicep Curls Tips
When it comes to building muscle many people are interested in building big, strong biceps. They can be very impressive looking and help with building arm strength. One of the most effective ways of developing your biceps is to perform bicep curls. There are several different types of biceps curls and they also can be performed standing, sitting or kneeling, or done as dead drop (one arm) curls. All of these can help to effectively build up and define your biceps.
The standing barbell bicep curl can provide the most increase in bicep strength and size due to the fact that you are using a full range of motion and working the bicep muscles very hard throughout the entire movement. To perform a barbell bicep curl, pick the barbell up with your palms faced away from your body. You should grip the barbell about a shoulder width apart. Make sure you stand up straight and that your back is straight throughout the entire bicep curl.
To perform the bicep curl, squeeze the bar with a firm grip and bring it toward your upper chest. Keep your elbows tucked in at your sides. At the top of the movement pause before bringing the bar slowly back down into the starting position. At all times keep control of the weight and don’t swing it or arch your back.
The dumbbell bicep curl is a variation that uses dumbbells instead of a barbell for the curls. To perform this exercise you will hold a dumbbell in each hand with your palms facing in and your arms straight. You can either do the curls alternating arms or use both arms at the same time. For the alternating dumbbell bicep curl you raise one of the dumbbells with your arm and rotate your forearm until it is completely vertical with your palm facing your shoulder. Then lower the dumbbell to its original position and then repeat the movement with your opposite arm. For simultaneous dumbbell bicep curls you will perform the same motion simultaneously with each arm.
There are some misconceptions when it comes to female bicep curls. While it is true that most women do not produce a sufficient amount of testosterone to help with large muscle growth, women can still strengthen and tone their biceps and even build bigger ones if they desire. Women bodybuilders looking to build up their biceps need to concentrate on doing less reps and adding more weight when they do bicep curls.
