Beware of Cheap Exercise Equipment
Finding good, quality, cheap fitness equipment for sale can be very difficult. Sadly, when it comes to certain types of fitness gear, the old adage of ‘you get what you pay for’ is very true—sometimes you just have to pay for the quality if you want your equipment to last and to perform as you would expect.
This is especially true with exercise equipment cheap that incorporates the following into the machine:
1) Computers or other electronic parts
2) Many different moving parts
When electronics are incorporated into treadmills, elliptical bikes, and other fitness equipment it makes it very difficult to mass produce them at very high quality levels. This does not mean that you can find a good, cheap treadmill, but it means that you won’t find one for under $300 (at least not one that will last you for more than a year or two or would allow you to run on it for 60 minutes each day). Generally speaking, the electronic parts just won’t last as long and won’t perform like they should. The best example of this might be the Sportcraft treadmills (not to pick on Sportcraft, but it’s a great example). Sportcraft has tried to build discount treadmills and mass-market them through Walmart and other stores. However, there treadmills have been recalled 3 times for various issues.
In addition, generally these types of machines are highly reliant on hundreds of moving parts, both small and large. Treadmills and elliptical machines are built to have these small parts be exposed to certain amounts of force (your running and your weight), and over time that force will wear and tear on any parts, but even more so on cheap parts. Eventually, these types of machines will have problems and then most likely will be put into the garage to collect dust.
Bottom line – don’t just buy something because it’s cheap. Research the company and product reviews and make sure you get a decent amount of quality before you make your purchase.
