Fasting Weight Loss – Is It Healthy?
When people are researching fast weight loss diets and all of these fad diets out there, they can sometimes become jaded not knowing if one method is better than another. One method that has become pretty popular is fasting weight loss, which is going without food for certain periods of time with the hopes of getting your body working at an optimum rate. Is fasting for weight loss really healthy?
Fasting from food has been a spiritual practice in many religions for centuries. Recently, people have begun to see positive effects when choosing to go without for a certain period (usually like 24 hours). The effect that this can have on your body is minimal as far as damage is concerned. It can help your stomach to shrink and not expect as much food as long as you follow up fasting by eating smaller amounts of food. Starving yourself will not help you to lose weight in the long run, but taking periodic breaks from food have been shown to have an impact.
They key is to be smart about it. I wouldn’t recommend going without food for longer than 24 hours at a time if your goal is to lose weight. If you go too long, as soon as you eat next, your body will hold onto all of that food, especially the fats, because it doesn’t know when it will get food again. This is great for survival, but not good at all for weight loss. I also wouldn’t recommend doing it more than once per week. This gives your body a chance to recover just enough before being put in a different position than it is normally used to being in.
As with any true, lasting weight loss system, you need to combine proper nutrition and exercising along with fasting for quick weight loss. If you fast and then go eat a burger and fries with a soda at a fast food place, then the fast will have no effect. You need to make sure you are staying away from high fat, high sodium, and high cholesterol foods. You also need to make sure that you are combining different kinds of exercises, such as cardio and also factoring in strength or resistance training. Cardio itself won’t help you to lose weight, so you need to build some kind of resistance training into your workout routine, in order to build some muscle. You don’t need to become buff, but building lean muscle tissue helps you to burn fat faster.
All in all, if you fast from food properly (no more than 24 hours and no more than one a week) and combine it with a proper diet and exercise, you will begin to see results in no time. I hope you take these fast weight loss tips to heart and start to lose weight quickly!
