How Much Should Resistance Tubes Cost?

As with any other exercise equipment (or really anything you buy, for that matter), resistance tubes can be pretty affordable, very expensive, or anywhere in between. When you set out to buy resistance tubes, it shouldn’t be hard to find what you’re looking for. But that does, of course, mean you need to have an idea about the criteria and attributes of your ideal resistance tubing before you set out.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself before you begin:

  • Will you use this resistance tube for building strength or for toning muscle? If the answer is strength, you’ll want to be able to upgrade to resistance tubing that is harder to pull against as your muscles get stronger, so as to add bulk and mass to your muscles. If the answer is simply muscle toning, then repetitive work with a  gentler tube is more appropriate.Buying advice: For muscle builders, get a resistance tube set with varying resistance levels, so you can work your way up to stronger bands as you go. For muscle toners, stick with a single purchase of a low level tube; there’s no need to invest in tougher tubes that you probably will not use.
  • Are you already in pretty good shape, or is this part of your new workout routine that you hope to start? The level of resistance you choose will depend on how strong your muscles already are.Buying advice: If you regular work on muscle strength with other exercises, you will probably be ready for a mid-grade resistance tube. If you are just getting started, a lower grade is more suited to your needs.

How much to spend.

If you are buying individual resistance tubes, you can get a lightweight, low-resistance tube for $10-$15. If you are buying an individual tube that is more heavy duty, expect to spend more in the $20-$30 range. If you are buying a resistance tube set, how much you spend depends on how advanced the kit is. A three-level kit can cost as little as $15-20, but a 10-level, multi-handle set can cost a few hundred dollars. It all depends what you are looking for, and how you plan to use your resistance tubes.
