Is a Low Calorie Diet Practical?

Compiling a listing of the myriad of diet plans available would fill volumes. There is a plan for everyone – plans that call for extreme restrictions to plans where you are counting each and every calorie. Finding a plan that will work for you can be an overwhelming task.

However, following one of these plans may not be the way to lose weight in the long term. Extremely restrictive diets and low calorie diet plans are simply not effective. Some foods contain high quality calories that are easily assimilated through the body while processed junk foods contain calories that are devoid of nutritional value.

Eating a diet that is highly processed will not enable you to lose weight and keep it off. Restricting calories on a diet that consists of junk food is counterproductive. While you may lose weight by starving yourself initially, as soon as you resume consumption of those valueless calories, the weight will come back. More often than not, you end up gaining more than you did prior to going on a restrictive diet.

Consuming the right type of calories is more effective than counting the calories you consume.
A permanent lifestyle change is what is necessary for long term success. It will also improve your health and vitality.

When food shopping, stick to the perimeter of the supermarket. This is where the produce and fish are located. Steer your shopping cart clear of the middle sections that are concentrated with processed foods. Consuming whole foods in the place of processed junk foods will make it easier for you to lose weight without restricting calories.

Replace refined white grains with whole grains and legumes. Eliminate foods that are high in refined white sugars. Changes in your lifestyle are vital to improve health and to maintain a lean body mass.

Regular consumption of processed junk foods is detrimental to your health and can lead to chronic health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and some cancers. In the short term, a low calorie diet may help you to shed some pounds. However, modifying your lifestyle is necessary for long term success!
