Lean & Green Recipes for the Medifast Diet

Interest in the Medifast diet is at an all-time high due the many high-profile weight loss successes attributed to the program. But many people wonder what exactly do you eat while on Medifast. This part of the program seems to be confusing for some people, but it’s really very simple – and healthy. The good news is that there is a wide variety of “official” eating options, as well as an every growing collection of unofficial Medifast Recipes which are available online.

In the early days of Medifast, it was only available from your physician and it was restricted to the shakes with absolutely no outside food. But over the years, Medifast has gradually evolved into a much more balanced (but still very effective) plan called the 5-1. You no longer need to get Medifast directly from your physician and you are now able to eat one meal consisting of “real” food.

A day on Medifast consists of 5 pre-packaged meals which include shakes, crunch bars, pretzel sticks, cheese puffs, soups, oatmeals, puddings and more. You also eat one “Lean and Green” meal which you prepare yourself. Your “Lean and Green” consists of 5-7 ounces of meat or vegetable protein, two cups of greens and an additional serving of vegetables. The exact proportions depend on what types of food you are combining.

The Lean and Green Meal is actually pretty substantial if you make it with the correct proportions. There are a wide variety of recipes for Lean and Green meals available online. There is a delicious Lean and Green taco salad that I eat on a regular basis.

The great thing about Medifast is that it offers a healthy and realistic eating system. You don’t have to count calories and you don’t have to deprive yourself. Just eat on a regular schedule and you will lose weight and feel great.
