Metabolism, muscles and weight loss
Do you want to know how to lose weight fast and burn fat? The answer lies to a very simple fact: Build more muscles in your body and you will be able to lose weight and fat faster. Why is this so? Because this is how our body metabolism works. Read on and you will understand why.
What is metabolism?
There is much talk in the weight loss era about metabolism but not many people understand exactly what the metabolic rate is. In simple terms the metabolic rate is how fast or slow our body is able to burn calories. Our body requires a certain amount of calories for proper functioning and above that the number of calories it can burn per day depend on the exercise levels, muscle – fat composition and diet. This is exactly the reason why people with more muscles, men (typically have more muscles than women) and people who exercise are able to lose weight faster (they have a faster metabolism).
How can you improve your metabolism?
The best way for increasing your metabolism is by exercising and more particularly by building more muscles. Any form of exercise is good (walking, aerobics, cycling) but exercising with weights will help you lose weight faster because this kind of exercise will help you build more muscle tissue. Having more muscle tissues gives your body more power and energy to burn fat faster both during the exercising periods but also during the rest periods. This is also the reason why athletes or people with big muscle tissues find it easier to manipulate their weight, almost at wish. Having more muscles is also healthier than having fat.
Other ways to improve your metabolism besides exercise include:
Drinking more tea and coffee: These drinks provide a stimulus do the body’s sympathetic system which in turn improves the metabolic rate.
Get rid of stress: Stress among the many bad things that can cause to our health can also slow down metabolism
Regular meals: Eating regular meals every 3-4 hours can also help improve metabolism due to increase digestion.
Stay away from fasting or strict diets: many people believe that by skipping meals or eating too little food they will be able to lose weight faster. This is far from truth. Following such a plan will slow down your metabolism and the whole weight loss process will be harder. Our body has a special way for protecting us from starving and by skipping meals consistently we are in essence activating this feature. As a result the fat burning process is reduced and we lose weight slower. In addition by skipping meals our body will start by losing liquids (mainly water), then muscle tissue and then fat tissue. This means that instead of helping our body lose weight we make the process much more difficult since the muscle tissues are reduced.
