P90X – What Is It
For those of you that never flip through the channels after midnight or before 7 am you might not have heard about P90X, but for everyone else we have all see the infomercials. Some of you might have friends doing P90X but what is “ doing P90X “.Simply put as the name implies P90X is a 90 workout that is done in the comfort of your home by watching a series of 12 DVD’s. If it were just the DVDs I would say this is a good program and you can see good results if you follow along, but what makes this a great workout is that it comes with a complete support system that includes a well thought out nutrition guide that gives you several options on how to apply it to you life. It also has an online community that offers you the accountability of a workout partner as well as a coach that is assigned to everyone that purchase the system.
The workouts themselves are divided into three categories there are muscle building, cardio and flexibility workouts. You work out 6 days a week for three weeks and then you take a “rest week “ during the rest week you only do the cardio and flexibility workouts but its still 6 days a week . The entire muscle building workouts are done in a circuit so you get a great cardio workout as well. At the end of the muscle building you do a 15 min abs routine, called Abripper X this is pretty tough I don’t know too many people who are able to get through it on the first try. Every workout involves opposing muscle groups so if you push then next exercise you will pull. I like this concept I think it helps keep your body balance.
The nutrition Guide has two ways to follow it. One is by instructing you how many portions of Proteins, Carbs, and Fats you should eat per meal per day. The second way to follow the guide is a meal plan that give you exactly what to eat. I like to use a combination of the two. When I have time to cook, give me the meal plan it take all the guesswork out of it, but when I am on the run it’s nice to be able to figure out how much I should be eating when I order out. Just like the workouts get progressively hard the nutrition guide changes as the workouts due. The first part is called the fat shredder it is higher protein, the second part is more balanced and the third part is higher carb athletic diet.
In summary if you are willing to work really hard give the P90X workout a try
