Stubborn Belly Fat and How to Get Rid of It

You often hear the phrase ”stubborn belly fat” and how difficult it is to get rid of. We talk about it as if it were some special type of fat that is different than other body fat, and if we could just somehow find a special diet, pill, or workout exercise, then the stubborn belly fat could be removed. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t work that way.

Belly fat is just like other body fat, and getting rid of it can only be done by lowering your total body fat. How to lose body fat is pretty simple in theory; put less energy in your body than the energy your body uses. In other words, you need to maintain a calorie deficit to be able to lose weight.  it doesn’t matter how old you are either, because belly fat loss over 50 is possible too, it may just take a little bit more work.

Calorie deficits can be obtained by tackling either side of the calorie equation, or both. The “in” side of the equation translates to consuming fewer calories. This can be done by eating healthier food that isn’t as rich on fat and carbohydrates. The other side of the equation, “out”, is how many calories you expend on energy. You can increase your energy expenditure through workout and physical activities.

No matter which side of the equation you decide to focus on, and balancing both approaches is no doubt the best, you will have to figure out the input so that you can do the math. Finding your BMR is the first step, and then adding all the energy expended on activity on top of that. This will give you the “out” side. For the “in” side you need to count calories. This might not be that fun in the beginning, will be easy pickings as soon as you start to memorize the nutrients in the different food groups.

When you have all this data gathered up, you simply need to start working on lowering the left side and/or increasing the right side.
