How The Biggest Loser Show Changed America
If anyone ever had a doubt that a reality show about obese people getting hammered day in and day out by some skinny trainers would fall flat, then The Biggest Loser Show has made a believer out of them. Other similar reality bases shows have failed while The Biggest Loser has kept on sitting broadcast records.
I believe that this show is successful for a few reasons. Mainly obese people love watching it. Myself included. We can relate to the contestants battles with weight. We’ve fought many of the same battles ourselves and continue to this day.
Overweight people tend to like to dream that they can also lose as much weight as the people on the show. We all know we can lose that much weight, but few of us will put forth the effort and will power to obtain the same success as those on the show.
It was once thought that severe obese people did not have much of a chance to loose such large amounts of weight in a relatively short period of time. And it was always thought that you didn’t put them under severe stress by working them out 4 to 6 hours a day! But The Biggest Loser show disproved all those theories. It took overweight people and put them on a strict diet with lots of exercise and obtained unbelievable results.
I can remember after the first season, people were calling the results the contestants had a mere fluke. No way they could obtain such results again. I mean, you just didn’t hear people losing 70, 80 or even 100 pounds in a few months!
Season 2 silenced most of the critics and got them into the gym working out so the could obtain similar results.
But more importantly, The Biggest Loser gave many of us who are overweight hope! It also showed us the proper workout techniques and the how to eat properly to maintain our weight without taking in excessive calories.
