Weight Loss Solutions That Work
My mom has a subscription to Woman’s Day magazine and I find it amusing that every week a new headline appears on the cover that touts the lastest and greatest weight loss solution. I’m not kidding! She has a stack of them in her house and one day while I was visiting we went through every single one and sure enough, each issue introduced a completely new diet that was supposed to be better than the one before.
A lot of people are looking for easy and quick weight loss solutions. And that’s fine as long as you understand that no matter how fast you lose the weight, there’s always the chance that you’re going to gain it back unless you change your habits. Fast weight loss solutions make for good magazine headlines but at the end of the day you need to do just a little work.
Believe it or not, but the best weight loss solutions are also free. A lot of people are looking for the magical pill, recipe or supplement to help them lose weight but the truth is it’s all about calories. I have a co-worker that lost a substantial amount of weight and everyday someone asks for her secret. She tells them that she eats less calories and exercises more. That’s about all there is to it. The majority of people seem pretty disappointed with her answer because it involves work and sacrifice but really, it’s not rocket science!
People gain weight because they consume more calories than they burn. The best weight loss solution is to either consume less calories, or exercise more. If you can do both, even better. Most experts agree that when you’re first starting out, it’s usually best to do one or the other and not both. That way you’ll have the best chance at success. Changing too many habits at once can often backfire even if you have good intentions.
Usually when people are seeking rapid weight loss solutions they become frustrated because they don’t see results quick enough. However, if you start slowly with just a slight change in diet or add some exercise one day a week you’ll be better off in the long run as long you remain patient. Over time you can gradually increase the intensity of your activities and your body will slowly adjust to the change.
For example, if you drink pop everyday during the week it will probably be difficult to stop drinking it completely. If you try to eliminate pop altogether you most likely won’t succeed unless you have strong will power. So instead, tell yourself that Wednesday is water-only day. No pop on Wednesdays! Once you get that down, you can eliminate pop on other days of the week until you’ve eliminated it altogether.
